Why use an acupressure mat?
Regular use of your Acupressure mat will assist in releasing chronic tension and stress promoting relaxation and better sleep.
It is very useful in reducing pain in the back, neck ,shoulders, hips and joints. With improved circulation and energy levels you can experience a long lasting sense of ease and well-being.
I use my Acupressure mat every day and love the benefits it gives. I highly recommend daily use.
How to use your mat
It is recommended that you accustom your body gradually starting out with the back position. Place your acupressure mat on the floor or bed. To support your neck you can use a pillow or rolled up towel. Carefully lie down on the acupressure mat in a comfortable position so that your skin rests in contact with the points.
Relax. Breathe deeply.
At first you may experience some discomfort but this will quickly subside. If your skin is very sensitive, you can start by putting a thin blanket between yourself and the mat. ( this will lessen the effect of the treatment). Distribute your weight evenly over the contact points. Start with just 10 mins then gradually increase your sessions to 20-40 mins. You will soon get used to lying on the mat and look forward to how it feels with direct contact on your skin!
Lying on your back – stimulates acupressure points along the spine soothing back problems
Sitting in a chair – loosens tension in the lumbar and buttocks
Feet – stand on the mat distributing your weight evenly. This position works on the reflexology zones giving an overall effect on the entire body. It also enhances stability and helps you to feel more grounded. This is one of my favourite uses for the mat. It is extremely grounding giving you a wonderful feeling of connection to the earth.
Lying on your stomach – get very accustomed to doing back treatments first as this position can be intense and powerful. It can improve your metabolism and loosen tightness in the diaphragm and respiratory muscles.
Neck: A pillow or rolled-up towel can be placed underneath your acupressure mat to support your neck. This position is very good for relieving tension in the shoulders and, in particular, for relaxing the trapezoid muscles that run all the way up to the base of the neck.
